Introduction

Optometry is a healthcare professional that involves primary eye examinations. It also provides consultation and services for diagnosis and management of refractive errors, binocular vision anomalies and some other ocular disorders. 

To practice Optometry in Iran, one must possess a Bachelor's or a Master’s degree in Optometry and be registered with Medical Council of the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRIMC). Optometrists, who continue their education towards PhD, can work at universities or research institutes.

History of The Department

The Department of Optometry was first established in the 1970s. The students were trained as Associate Degree Optometry program. Then, its Bachelor, Master and PhD degrees were also offered in 1983, 2009 and 2017, respectively.
